CHULA VISTA, CA — Inspired by his own upbringing and the mentors that have supported his career, Assemblymember David Alvarez (D-San Diego) is proud to announce the Young Legislators Program for students that live or attend school in the 80th Assembly District. This program seeks to provide high school students with an introduction to state government and a career in public service. Upon completion of the program, students will have received a thorough understanding of the legislative process and be well-equipped to pursue a public service career.
“I am thrilled to launch the first cohort of young legislators this summer,” said Assemblymember Alvarez. “The Young Legislators Program will provide students with an opportunity to learn about public service as they prepare to make the next steps in their college or career journey.”
The Young Legislators Program will include local government education, an introduction of the legislative process, community work, and sessions on professional and personal development. Students will work collaboratively and learn from guest speakers that work in public service and related fields. All students that complete the program will be recognized at Assemblymember Alvarez’s final community event of the year.
Assemblymember Alvarez is committed to investing in the future generations and their education. The program will run from June through December with sessions held once per month. High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors for the 2026-27 school year within the 80th Assembly District are encouraged to apply.
