CHULA VISTA, CA - Assemblymember David Alvarez (D-San Diego) hosted a free College Resource and Opportunity Fair on Saturday, October 17, at Castle Park High School in Chula Vista. The fair brought middle and high school students and their families together with college admissions representatives, financial aid experts, and career and technical education resources to help them plan for life after high school.

“Planning for life after high school can feel overwhelming, especially when families are sorting through admissions requirements, financial aid deadlines, and the cost of college on their own,” said Assemblymember Alvarez. “This event brought together students and families with universities, community colleges, trade programs, and financial aid experts, with free FAFSA help and one-on-one counseling on hand. I’m grateful to everyone who joined us, and I hope every student left with a clearer path to their next step.”

Families explored a wide range of postsecondary pathways, from universities and community colleges to trade and vocational programs. Over 300 Attendees connected directly with over school representatives from over 30 higher education institutions, received hands-on help with financial aid applications, took part in educational workshops, and had access to one-on-one counseling on college admissions, career planning, and paying for college.

The fair was co-hosted by Sweetwater Union High School District, Cal-SOAP, and the California Student Aid Commission.

“We appreciate Assemblymember David Alvarez for bringing this opportunity to our students and families,” said Superintendent Moises G. Aguirre, Ed.D. “Events like the College Opportunity Fair help remove barriers and give students the guidance and resources they need as they plan for their future. Preparing for college can be overwhelming, and having access to one-on-one guidance with applications

and financial aid is incredibly valuable. Thank you, Assemblymember Alvarez, for your continued partnership and for investing in our students and their futures."
“When students understand their financial aid options early, college becomes more than a distant dream. It becomes a future they can plan for,” said Dr. Daisy Gonzales, Executive Director of the California Student Aid Commission. “Financial aid literacy opens doors to opportunity, empowering students and families to make informed decisions about education and career pathways. We thank Assemblymember Alvarez and our partners for helping students envision and pursue futures full of possibility.”
